“I’ve been working in the care sector for 22 years, working my way up from a care assistant to become a manager. I’m very passionate about fulfilling the lives of the people we look after and delivering the best possible care with the support from my team.”
Our newest home has been built specifically for 8 younger adults with dementia or other mental illnesses. Residents enjoy bespoke rooms which are designed to meet their needs, and all feature en-suite bathrooms. On admission, residents will have the chance to personalise their room, adding new furniture and fittings to suit their particular likes.
Holly House has an on-site therapy room, where residents can go for activities and to use computers. We find this is a great asset to help with improving the residents general well-being as they can get away from the busy part of the home to a quiet area which is still safe and familiar. Staff can provide one-to-one quiet time with residents in a relaxed environment which helps them to feel valued and supported.
Residents also have frequent visits from entertainers, and enjoy holistic therapies. Holly House has a dedicated Day Services team who provide individually tailored programmes for our residents and take residents out on frequent day trips to help keep them mentally and physically fit.
In order to meet their changing needs, we occasionally move residents between our 4 homes if medical professionals and their family agree that this would be in their best interest. We find this is always a positive transition as residents are already familiar with the home and the staff.
Holly House provides specialist care for people with a diagnosis of alcohol related dementia who have stopped drinking. This service has a rehabilitation element to it. We provide these residents with the opportunity to develop life skills and to regain their independence. We also provide a programme of activities which initially is aimed at improving their general health, starting with healthy eating and exercise as these have often been a neglected aspect of their lives during the years of drinking. We acknowledge that this can be a slow process, often with setbacks, but we remain positive and believe that with support, encouragement and guidance the vast majority can achieve a much improved quality of life and an improved sense of well-being. This is evident with our current client group.
